Description
The Church of St Peter and St Paul is a Grade I listed building located in Upper Hardres. It is constructed of flint, with the nave made of unknapped flints. The chancel and nave are not divided, and there is a south chapel and south aisle, with a tower situated between them and a south porch. The church dates from the 13th to the 15th centuries, featuring a Norman tower. Some windows contain glass from around 1200 and 14th-century stained glass, with some pieces brought from Stelling Church in the 18th century. The church has a shallow 18th-century west gallery and a crown post roof in the nave. Inside, there is a Norman font and wall monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. The churchyard includes some 18th-century headstones with skull motifs, as well as one headstone featuring a heart, cherubs, bones, and an hourglass motif.
