Description
The Church of St Margaret is a Grade I listed building located in Womenswold. It is constructed of flint with stone dressings and has a tiled roof. The church features a chancel, nave, west tower, and a south porch. Originally, it served as a Chapel of Ease to Wingbam and later to Nonington Church, dating back to the 13th century. The tower and chancel nave are likely of Norman origin and were restored in 1870, while the red brick gabled south porch was added in 1729. Inside, the church has a three-bay nave with a crown post roof and a chancel arch. There is a series of fine wall monuments dedicated to families associated with Nethersole House or Denne Hill, some created by Sid Robert Taylor. Additionally, the north wall of the chancel features a triple sedilia and a trefoiled piscina.
