Description

The Roper Gate is a 16th-century red brick archway located on the northeast side of St Dunstan's Street. This gateway once provided access to Place House, the residence of Margaret Roper, the daughter of Sir Thomas More, and the Roper family. It features a crow-stepped gable above, which contains a window with three arched lights, two of which are now blocked, along with brick mullions and a blocked circular opening above. The gateway has a large four-centre arch with double wooden doors and a brick hoof-mould above.
