Description
John Smith’s Hospital comprises a row of almshouses dated 1657. The buildings are timber-framed and faced with red brick, arranged over one storey. They have a tiled roof punctuated by four large brick stacks, and a restored modillion eaves cornice. Each almshouse has a casement window with shutters. Shaped Dutch gables mark the ends of the block. The rear elevation features a hipped roof. Number 38 is distinguished by a substantial red brick chimney breast. Nos 37 to 44 form a group.
