Description
The granary and oasthouses located to the south-west of Sheerland Farmhouse were built in 1838 by Sir Edward Cholmeley Dering, the 8th Baronet, who lived from 1807 to 1896. This impressive structure features a central granary made of stone, standing two storeys high with a hipped slate roof. The east front has six Dering windows and a four-centred doorway at the centre of both floors. On the ground floor, there are four additional similar doorways for carts on the north side. At both the north and south ends of the granary, there is a cylindrical oast, with four more oasts located behind to the west. These oasts are also constructed of stone and topped with conical slate roofs. Each oast features a wooden cowl with a fantail, adorned with a figure of a black horse, which serves as the tile crest of the Dering Family.
