Description

Weavers Cot is an L-shaped timber-framed building with close-studded walls and plaster infilling, located in Biddenden. The main, east-west wing dates to around 1535, and is considered to be early 16th century. A southern wing was likely added later. The building is two storeys high. The north front features an overhanging first floor supported by a moulded bressumer and brackets, though the western corner of the ground floor is faced with red brick, and the first floor above it does not overhang. The entire west front, which originally had a jettied first floor, has been similarly rebuilt. The roof is covered with tiles and is hipped. The windows are casements with small, square, leaded panes. Four oriel windows, each with five lights, are positioned on the first floor of the north front, featuring plaster coves beneath and carved brackets at the sides. Smaller windows, originally present on either side of these and the ground floor windows, have been blocked. The south front is tile-hung. Inside, the building retains a 16th-century staircase, early 18th-century panelling, and moulded fireplaces on the upper floor. The roof does not contain a crown post.
