Description
The Parish Church of St Peter is a Grade II* listed building located in Newenden. It features a chancel and a nave with three bays, a narrow north aisle, and a small section of the south aisle. There is a south porch and a small square bell turret, built in 1859, which is topped with a shingled spire at the south-west corner of the nave. The nave has a barrel vaulted roof and three crownposts supported by a moulded central tie beam. The nave and aisles date from the 15th to 14th centuries, while the south porch is from the 18th century, and the bell turret was added in the late 19th century. The chancel was rebuilt between 1950 and 1951. Inside, there is a Norman font and a Jacobean pulpit. The churchyard contains some 18th-century table tombs and three 18th-century headstones, each adorned with three cherubs.
