Description
May Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse that may have been built around the core of an earlier structure. The building was refenestrated in the 20th century. The front elevation is rendered, while the right side elevation is made of brick, partly in English bond. The rear elevation features a painted brick ground floor and a tile-hung first floor. The roof is hipped and tiled, with two hips at the rear. On the right side, there is a large red brick external chimney stack that includes two windows, along with two additional chimney stacks on each side of the house.
The farmhouse has two storeys and three windows, with 20th-century casements, mostly tripartite. There is a 20th-century porch with a half-hipped tiled roof and metal glazing. Inside, the lounge features chamfered axial beams and exposed floor joists, along with a massive chamfered wooden bressumer over the fireplace, which includes seats. The kitchen has a chamfered spine beam and exposed floor joists. The dining room contains 18th-century joists that are now exposed but were originally concealed. The frame is visible on the upper floor, including partition walls with diagonal braces and plank doors fitted with pintle hinges.
