Description
Forstal Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-16th century. It features a timber frame clad with red brick and tile hanging on the first floor, with ragstone on the return elevations. The roof is plain tiled and hipped. The house consists of four framed bays with a cross-passage and is two storeys high. There are stacks on the left side and at the end left. The first floor has two glazing bar sash windows and wooden casements to the centre and right. On the ground floor, there is a glazing bar sash to the left and a central wooden casement, along with a boarded door to the right. A catslide outshot is present at the rear.
Inside, the farmhouse was originally jettied on three sides and features moulded ceiling beams and a moulded chimney bressumer with foliate spandrels, as well as four-centred arches through the passage doorway spandrels leading to the service rooms. There is a dog leg stair with a panelled balustrade and poppyhead newels. The upper hall, which was originally unheated, has a crown post roof and was ceiled in the 17th century.
