Description

Washenden Manor is a 16th-century or earlier timber-framed building. The north-east wall retains plaster infilling, but the rest of the exterior has been refronted; the ground floor is red brick with grey headers, and the upper portion is tile-hung. The manor house is two storeys high with attics, and has a half-hipped tiled roof with two gabled dormers. There are four casement windows with small, square leaded panes. A pentice is present on the rear of the roof, and an L-shaped wing of sheds has been added. The moat surrounding the house remains complete. Washenden Manor was one of the original manors of Biddenden, and a court was historically held here; it was originally held by Battle Abbey.
