Description
Wye Court is a house built in the early 18th century. It features red brick with darker brick dressings and has a plain tiled roof. The building is two storeys high, with a basement and attic, set on a plinth with quoin strips and a projecting centre piece. The hipped roof has a moulded wooden modillion bracket and an eaves cornice, with small flat-roofed dormers on both sides and stacks at each end. The front has a regular arrangement of five glazing bar sash windows, with the three in the centre set in the projecting piece, the central window having a basket arched head. There are four wooden casements in the basement. The central entrance door has six panels and a semi-circular fanlight, framed by a moulded doorcase with a cornice on brackets, and is accessed by a flight of steps. At the rear, there is a hipped wing. This house was the residence of a cadet branch of the Finche family, who were Earls Winchelsea at nearby Eastwell Park.
