Description
No. 80 Upper Bridge Street is a house dating from the 15th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a timber frame, with some parts exposed and red brick infill, as well as sections that are tile hung with boarding below. The roof is plain tiled and hipped. This building represents the truncated remains of a Wealden hall house.
It has two storeys, with the eaves overhanging to the right, supported by a single arch-braced post. There is a stack at the end right. The centre of the house has a two-storey canted bay, with a wooden casement window to the left on the first floor. The central entrance door consists of four panels and is framed by a moulded architrave. To the left, there is an outshot; the ground floor of the left half of the building is boarded, featuring two sets of carriage doors, a boarded door in the centre, and two wooden casements.
