Description

Forstal Gate is a house incorporating a late mediaeval hall-house. The north-west portion dates from the late 18th century, with a very steep, almost pyramidal roof and a chimney stack on the west side. The remainder of the original hall-house was destroyed by fire at a later date. The south-east part of the building dates from the 16th to 17th centuries. Both sections are faced with red brick, the north-west portion dated to 1758 with the initials TW & EW. The roof is tiled. The house has two storeys and four casement windows. Attached to the building is a dairy and a 20th-century extension to the south-east. Interior has inglenook fireplace with tobacco curing hole.
