Description
Hyde House, located at 75 Hyde Street, is a late 17th-century building that stands two storeys tall. It features red brick walls and an old tile roof, with a distinctive Dutch gable on the west elevation facing Hyde Street. The gable has a moulded brick cornice at its springing, which is broken in the centre to accommodate a central panel, and a moulded string below the arched top of the gable. There is an oval window in the gable end, but it is blocked. Below the panel is a blocked doorway that is arched and flanked by Doric pilasters, with an entablature and curved pediment, all crafted in moulded brick. The south front also has two storeys with brick walls, a moulded wooden cornice, and a plaster band underneath. It features five windows, one of which is blocked, that were altered in the late 18th century. The doorway here is of early 19th-century design, with a case and hood, and a panelled door topped with a rectangular light. The sash windows have glazing bars, and there is a stucco band at the first-floor level. A central brick chimney is present, while the east front is made of stone and includes a window from the 15th to 16th century on the first floor.
