Description
28 Church Street is a Grade II* listed house that dates from the 15th and 16th centuries, with some early 19th-century features and a 20th-century extension. The building has a late-medieval timber-framed structure consisting of three bays, with a wider central bay. A 16th-century chimney has been inserted, and a 17th-century stack is built onto the south end. The roof is thatched and whipped, featuring an eyebrow dormer. The house has one storey and an attic, with irregularly placed windows. The exposed frame is filled with plaster and painted brickwork, and there are casement windows along with a plain doorway. Inside, there are two old staircases at each end, which suggest the presence of a central open hall. At the rear, there is a two-storey extension added in the 20th century.
