Description
The Kings Somborne War Memorial is located at the center of the village where Church Road and Romsey Road intersect. It features a War Cross made of Portland stone, with a lozenge-sectioned cross shaft mounted on a three-stage rectangular plinth. This plinth is set on a lower, coved plinth that flares upwards to create a seat around the base of the memorial. The structure is accessed by three broad, square, shallow steps.
The main plinth bears the inscription "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN OF KINGS SOMBORNE MCM XIV + MCM XIX MCM XXXIX + MCM XLV" followed by the names of those commemorated. On the rear, it reads "THANKS BE TO GOD WHO GIVETH US THE VICTORY." The names of those who fell in the Second World War have been added to the memorial.
