Description

The Mk1 Inglis Portable Military Bridge (Light Type), also known as the Inglis Pyramid Bridge, was built around 1916 and spans the Basingstoke Canal.

Constructed from metal tubes and pre-cast, angled junction box fittings, the bridge has a pyramidal shape with three sets of 'W' trusses forming the sides. These trusses are connected to a single run of tubes at the apex using angled fittings. The walkway features regularly spaced angled fittings and diagonally-tensioned wire braces.

Each end of the bridge rests on a later 20th-century brick wall, which is part of the building's structure but is of lesser interest. At the level of the walkway, timber planks and one metal beam have been added, along with a sewer pipe. However, these features are not considered to have special architectural or historic interest. Any works that could affect the character of the listed building may still require consent from the local planning authority.
