Description
Dairy Cottages, formerly known as Nos 1 and 2 Dairy Cottages at South Charford Farm, are two cottages that are part of the remains of South Charford Manor. The building features a square medieval tower, with an eastern arm that is timber-framed from the 17th century and has some 18th-century cladding, while the northern arm is mainly from the 18th century. The brick walls are constructed in English bond and show signs of different periods and alterations, including some cambered arches and large stone quoins. The north elevation of the eastern arm has exposed brick-nogged framing. The cottages have a half-hipped tile roof with two gables above half-dormers on the south elevation. They are two storeys high and have three windows on the west (front) and south elevations, with casements. There is one plain doorway and a second access through a 20th-century porch built into the interior angle of the L-shape. The oldest part of the building has varying floor levels (two above a semi-basement), with a doorway on each floor featuring a stone frame with chamfered jambs. To the west, the remains of a moat can still be seen.
