Description

Breamore House is a mansion built in 1583, with minor changes made in the 18th century. After a fire in 1856, the house underwent significant restoration that maintained its original style. The walls are constructed of brick in English bond, featuring stone dressings, a plinth, flush quoins, and mullion and transom windows beneath hood moulds. There are weathered bands on the first and second floors, coved eaves, and gables. The roof is tiled, with Tudor stacks that have diagonal flues on rectangular bases.

The large L-shaped block has a symmetrical E-shaped east front, consisting of two storeys and an attic, with five gables and a total of 1.3.1.3.1 windows. The windows, mostly from the restoration period, have six and eight lights. The 18th-century doorcase features a cornice on console brackets, a pulvinated frieze, and eared architraves, accessed by an entrance raised on six steps with a pierced balustrade topped by two urns. Each facade has a central projecting unit, and there are staircase turrets at each outer corner. The forecourt includes an outer brick wall with gateway piers. The north-east range is less regular, lacking projections, with four gables, attached stacks, and single-storeyed wings. A paved area in front of the east side has a stone balustrade with diaper piercings.
