Description
Early 19th century, these two houses, 5 Highfield and 6 Highfield (Highfield Ridge), were originally built as a single block. The facades are stuccoed, with wide eaves and a slate roof. The houses have a basement and three storeys, with eight windows in total. The windows are sash and French casement types, with glazing bars on the first floor, and Venetian shutters. A tented balcony with iron pillars and railings extends to recessed side porches.
The main, four-windowed section is flanked by two-storey, one-bay sections to the east and west, each with a porch. A two-storey, two-windowed wing is located on the eastern side only.
Numbers 1 to 6 Highfield form an important group at the top of a hill, marking the entrance into Lymington. This grouping is associated with listed buildings on Stanford Hill and on Priestland Place.
