Description
Hatchwood House is an 18th-century building, although it incorporates earlier fabric. The north front, which serves as the main entrance, is symmetrical, featuring two storeys and an attic, with three windows. It has a red tile roof, hipped at each end, and a full moulded cornice that rises centrally as a pediment enclosing an oval window. The walls are rendered and feature four pilasters topped with entablature mouldings, where the cornice mouldings break forward into the eaves. A first-floor band, plinth, and pilaster base are visible, along with stone sills. Victorian sash windows are set in exposed frames, with an original sash window above the porch. The porch itself has a doorway flanked by windows, positioned between pilasters, with a Doric order (dentil moulding) projecting forward from the inner pilasters to form two columns. A modern glazed door and porch sides are present.
The east elevation is similarly symmetrical, with a 1-3-1 window arrangement. A pedimented gable projects slightly forward at the centre, incorporating deep ground floor windows and a central French door. A large, solid bay with curved corners, sash windows, and a moulded parapet extends from the north side. The rear elevation features three gables, the easternmost of which is a long projection, representing the oldest part of the house. This section retains some original leaded casement windows.
