Description
South Warnborough Manor House dates from the early 18th century, with later alterations in the late 18th and 19th centuries. It is a two-story and attic building, originally L-shaped, though extended later. The west front features a projecting one-bay section to the north, a lower two-story wing attached to the north side of the projection, and a small one-story wing at the south end. The facade has a steep tiled roof with hipped ends. The later wing has a low-pitched slate roof. The walls are stuccoed with a parapet, a pilaster at the south side, stone cills and a plinth. Tall sash windows are framed in exposed surrounds. A Greek Doric porch with two columns between square corner columns, set within a frame of four pilasters, shelters a round-headed doorway with a radiating fanlight and reeded door frame, all on a raised podium with a central flight of four steps. A modern glazed door replaces the original.
The east front is a regular six-bay arrangement with a two-bay lower extension to the north. The stucco walling has end pilasters, a parapet band, a first-floor band and a plinth. It contains sash windows, including three early 18th century upper windows. There is a wider-arched doorway with a fanlight; the attached wing has a plain doorway within a slightly projecting framework. The complex internal angle of the north-east corner displays two dormers, a bell-turret on the roof slope, and a six-panelled door beneath an oval fanlight.
