Description
The Lawn is an early 19th-century building located on the southeast side of London Road in Holybourne. It is two storeys high and three bays wide, constructed of colour-washed brick with a hipped slate roof. The ground floor features a central original glazed door with a radiating fanlight set within an architrave surround, and this is enclosed by a slightly later porch that has a moulded cornice. On either side of the door, there are single canted bay windows that extend through both storeys. Inside, the building contains an early 19th-century staircase and fireplaces. Notably, Mrs. Gaskell passed away here in 1865. There are extensive modern additions to the left of the original structure.
