Description
Peartree Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the early 19th century, with 20th-century additions and alterations. It is built of painted brick in an irregular bond and features a thatched roof with an external brick stack on the left. The cottage has additional weatherboard sections with corrugated iron or sheet roofing. It is a single storey with two bays, plus added bays at either end and a continuous lean-to porch at the front. The layout consists of two rooms, with the entrance into the left-hand room and a central lobby leading to a scullery at the rear. The windows are wooden casements, with three lights to the left of the door and later paired one-light windows to the right. The porch is made from fence panels and reused windows. At the rear, there is a small central scullery window with a shuttered vent above, flanked by a three-light window on the left and a two-light window on the right. Inside, there are bead-moulded door and window frames, a brick fireplace in the left room, and a brick corner fireplace in the right room, though the stack is truncated. The roof is underceiled, but small-scantling pole rafters and a ridge-piece are visible. Peartree Cottage is a well-preserved example of a simple labourer's cottage.
