Description
Chilton Cottage is a 17th and 18th century long, narrow timber-framed house that features an older central section with later extensions on each side. It has one storey and an attic, topped with a thatched roof that slopes down to low eaves at both ends and unevenly at the rear, incorporating eyebrows and small dormers. The front, facing southeast, is symmetrical, with two windows on either side of a central doorway, and five upper windows that are less evenly spaced. The frame on this side is finished in red brickwork laid in Flemish bond, with simple end pilasters that merge into a plinth and cambered openings on the ground floor. The rear wall reveals exposed timber-framing with brick nogging. The cottage features modern casement windows and traditional doors.
