Description
Derrydown Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1500 and 1600, with later extensions and alterations made in the 18th century, late 19th century, and 20th century. The building features mainly brick walls and a tiled roof. It has a late medieval timber-framed hall with four bays, where fireplaces and upper floors were added around 1600. There are extensions at each end from the 18th and 19th centuries, with restoration work done in the 20th century. The house is one storey with an attic and has five windows above six. The roof is hipped at the north end and half-hipped at the south, with a lower outshot on the north covered in felt and gabled dormers. The upper wall exposes the timber frame, which has brick infill and other walling, mostly in Flemish bond with blue headers. There are casement windows and two plain doorways with boarded doors, one of which is located beneath a tiled hood supported by posts. Inside, the cross walls show where the upper floor was inserted, and there are massive chimney breasts.
