Description

The Malt House is an early 19th-century two-storey house with a shop front, originally featuring three upper windows. It is situated on Church Street in St Mary Bourne. The building has a slate roof with stepped brick eaves. Its facade is primarily red brick with long and short flint panels, a brick plinth, and stone cills. The windows are sash windows set within reveals. The ground floor on the south-east side originally had a shop front; it retains a moulded cornice, frieze, and thin pilasters, although the shop front has been made narrower by the infill of flint and brick walling on its east side. A four-panelled door is set within a solid frame, and is sheltered by a hood supported on carved brackets. The easternmost quarter of the front face of the building turns at a slight angle, to align with the front of the adjacent building.
