Description
Holy Cross Priory is a large U-shaped mansion built in the Tudor Gothic style, designed by Matthew Digby Wyatt and constructed between 1865 and 1870. The building is made of red brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof with brick chimney stacks. The entrance front showcases a varied arrangement of gables, roofs, and chimneys. The hall is located in the recessed center and is topped by a lantern, with a two-storeyed porch on the left and a large canted bay window with mullions and transoms on the right. The projecting wings include gables, mullioned windows, and turrets. The garden front consists of two storeys and a basement, featuring a central gable, a two-storeyed canted bay window on the left, and an octagonal turret on the right. There is also a further gable with a three-storeyed canted bay window adjacent to it. Inside, there are elaborate carved staircases and fireplaces, along with some modern additions.
