Description
Possingworth Manor, formerly known as Old Possingworth Manor, is a Grade II* listed house that showcases the character of an early 17th century building. The house bears the date 1657 and the initials T. O., indicating it was built by Thomas Offley in that year. Only the north half of the building is original; the south half was demolished and later rebuilt in 1921 as a replica of the original portion. The new construction has weathered well, blending seamlessly with the older part.
The manor is constructed of ashlar stone and features a tiled roof. It has two storeys and an attic, with five windows that include casement windows with stone mullions. The main front faces east and includes a central porch, which marks the southern limit of the original structure. The porch has two storeys above it, topped with a gable that features kneelers and ball finials at the apex and corners. The stone doorway in the porch has a projecting cornice, the date 1657, and the initials T. O., along with an old wooden door.
Each end of the front has a gable containing an attic window, also with a ball finial above. Between these gables and the central gable, there are dormers on each side, each topped with similar ball finials. The west front has two original projections and one modern projection, all surmounted by gables with ball finials. Additionally, there is a rainwater head dated 1620 on part of the offices.
