Description

Holme Park is a house dating from the 1840s, built in an Italianate style. The house is rendered with a hipped slate roof and rendered chimneystacks. The plan is asymmetrical; the main block is two storeys high with four windows. The left-hand bay projects forward with pilasters, and the right-hand bay also has pilasters. The windows are casements. A projecting sun-lounge is situated on the ground floor, featuring four pilasters and two Tuscan engaged columns, with modified Venetian-style windows. Above the sun-lounge is balustrading curved to the centre. Two pedimented pavilions flank the main block, each with triple French windows, a plinth, and flights of cemented steps. Attached to the right, set back, is an impressive three-story Italianate tower with a hipped roof, an elaborate metal finial, and a bracket cornice. The second floor of the tower has three round-headed arched windows with impost blocks and balustrading below. The first floor has curved balconettes on two sides, with French windows in pedimented surrounds and blank shields above. A curved window from the early 20th century is located at the rear. The two-story service wing has a blank shield to the centre, flanked by two sash windows with horns and a cambered arch to the ground floor. The rear of the service wing features a central pedimented dormer with console brackets and a canted first-floor bay. Inside, the reception hall was panelled by Harrods in 1919. A library features late 19th-century shelving, a coved cornice, and an Adam-style octagonal ceiling feature with wheat ear drops and roundels. A front right room contains an elaborate plaster cornice with foliate details and an elaborate curved pediment over the door; the fireplace had been removed at the time of survey.
