Description

The Thatched Cottage is a house, originally two cottages, dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The ground floor is constructed of late 19th century brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern. The first floor exhibits exposed timber framing with plaster infill. The roof is thatched, featuring a panelled central brick chimneystack. The house is two storeys high with two windows. It has gabled semi-dormers with 19th-century casement windows to the first floor. Late 19th-century gabled weather porches are also present. The right side elevation is tile hung, and the rear elevation has a catslide roof. Early 19th-century diaper bond brickwork is visible on the ground floor. The ground floor has three casement windows and two gabled doorcases with plank doors. Interior features include a stone open fireplace with a bressumer featuring run-out stops above, a wider staircase, and pintle hinges on the front door.
