Description
The Parish Church of All Saints is a Grade I listed building located on Herstmonceux Church Road. It is constructed of red brick, partly cement, with a stone tower and partly slated roofs. The church features a chancel, a north chapel, a nave with aisles, north and south porches, and a tower at the west end of the north aisle topped with a broached shingled spire. The nave and tower date from the late 12th century, while the south aisle is from the 13th century. The north aisle, south porch, and chancel are from the 14th century. The north or Dacre Chapel was built around 1450 and is made of brick, similar to the nearby castle, which was constructed around the same time. The north porch was added in 1874. Inside, there are notable features including the Dacre tombs of Thomas Lord Hoo, who died in 1455, and Sir Thomas Hoo, who died in 1486, as well as a late Georgian wall monument.
