Description
The courtyard with terms, balustrade, and fountain on the west side of Buxted Park is a Grade II* listed feature, created around 1940 by Basil Ionides. It is a semi-circular courtyard made of red brick, adorned with stone terms that were relocated from Ashley Park in Walton on Thames. The west side of the courtyard is enclosed by a stone balustrade, originally from Chesterfield House, designed by Isaac Ware. At the center of the courtyard stands a 19th-century stone fountain that was brought from Drayton Manor, the residence of Sir Robert Peel in Staffordshire. This fountain features a lower basin with three figures of boys standing on shells, surrounded by six vases. It has a central pedestal with two upper basins, topped by another figure of a boy holding a swan.
