Description
Mount Pleasant Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, which was refronted in the early 19th century and had most of its windows replaced in the late 19th century. There are large later 20th-century extensions to the northwest that are not of special interest.
The exterior features a timber-framed structure that has been refaced with painted brick on the ground floor and tile-hung on the first floor. It has a hipped tiled roof with gablets, a catslide at the rear, and a central brick chimneystack. The building has a four-bay lobby entrance plan and is two storeys high with four windows, mainly late 19th-century casements. The doorcase is opposite the central chimneystack, but there is a later 20th-century French window to the left. The southwest side includes a 20th-century chimneystack and two 20th-century windows. The north side features a 20th-century one-storey extension with a hipped roof, along with a large two-storey extension and conservatory added in 1978.
Inside, the ground floor northern bay has rough-hewn floor joists. The adjoining room contains a spine beam with a two and a half inch spine beam featuring quirk and tongue detailing, an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer also with quirk and tongue moulding, and panelled cupboards. The ceiling beams are exposed in the southern part of the house, and some posts and framing are visible on the rear wall. The first floor has a frame with a midrail and jowled posts at the ends, along with two and a half bays of the rear wall. Sockets for diamond mullioned windows can be seen on the former rear wall. The roof features pegged rafters, clasped purlins, and a queen post roof, along with a late 19th or early 20th-century staircase with square balusters.
