Description

The South-West Gateway of Bayham Abbey is a structure likely built around 1870 by the architect David Brandon, who also designed the mansion located in Kent. The gateway features cast iron double gates leading to the carriage drive, which are adorned with cresting and set within rectangular stone piers. These piers have projecting cornices and are topped with figures of a gryphon and a lion. On either side of the gateway, there are pedestrian gates, also with cresting, set in smaller stone piers that are surmounted by vases.
