The Keys is an 18th-century cottage located on the south side of Gardner Street in Herstmonceux. This two-storey building features an attic and has three windows along its façade, complemented by two dormers. The exterior is constructed of painted brick and topped with a tiled roof. The glazing bars are intact, adding to its character. Access to the cottage is via a doorway that is reached by three steps, flanked by fluted pilasters. The doorway is topped with a pointed pediment that includes fan ornamentation in the tympanum, and the door itself consists of six fielded panels.
