ISFIELD STATION ROAD Rocks Farm

II House. Early C18 altered early C19 on medieval foundations. Principal front opposite to modern road. Ground floor of red brick with black headers in diaper bond with mathematical tiles over. Hipped tiled roof with brick chimney stack. 2 storeys: 2, 1 windows. 1st floor has two 12-pane sashes in moulded architraves. Ground floor has 20-light late C18 or early C19 curved bow. Street front has 2, 16-pane sashes, painted brick ground floor and tile hung 1st floor with diaper pattern Sandstone base of earlier building. Interior features include an C18 round-beaded china cupboard reusing 4 earlier linenfold panels with H hinges (said to be a communion cupboard), early C19 marble fireplace, dado rail early C18, 2-panelled door, open fireplace to kitchen and 3 plank door with old studs and pirtle hinges. Building is on the site of the pre 1660 rectory where the grandfather of Nicholas Culpeper the Herbalist lived.
