Description
Hye House is a large house dated 1744, situated in the parish of Crowhurst. It comprises two parallel ranges, presenting a two-storey and attic facade with six windows and one window space, and three dormers. The building is constructed of red brick with window dressings and quoins of a deeper red hue. A stringcourse and cornice run along the facade, topped by an embattled parapet which has been cut away in front of the dormers. Pilasters flank the front elevation, and the two central window bays project forward. The roof is tiled. A round-headed, rusticated panel is centrally placed on the first floor. The windows have segmental heads, and the glazing bars are missing. The doorway features pilasters, a flat hood on brackets, and a door of six fielded panels. A 19th-century conservatory has been added to the ground floor on the south side.
