Description
Leasam House School is a fine mansion built by Jeremiah Curteis between 1798 and 1806. The main south front features three storeys and seven windows, constructed of red brick with painted quoins and a stringcourse above the first floor. A balustraded parapet with panels of red brick tops the building, with the three central window bays projecting slightly. These projecting bays are edged with quoins, and a modillion pediment sits above them on the second floor, incorporating a lunette window. Terracotta swags decorate the spaces between the first-floor windows. A hexastyle Ionic portico with a balustraded parapet graces the ground floor entrance, complemented by a rectangular fanlight over the doorway. Keystones are present over the ground-floor windows, and the original glazing bars remain intact.
The north, or entrance, front features a doorway with engaged columns, a curved pediment, an enriched frieze, and a semi-circular fanlight above a six-panel door. The east front has three windows, with the outer windows being tripartite, and those on the second floor forming lunette windows. A later service wing was added to the north-west of the main house.
