Description
The Tomb of Viscount Milner is located in the extension of St Mary's Churchyard, northeast of the church. Designed by Sir Edward Lutyens around 1925, it is a large square structure made of Portland stone, resting on a base of rubblestone. The monument features slight projections and recessions in its design. One side includes a plain slab seat supported by rubble piers. The elevation has a projecting plinth that reaches one third of the monument's height. At the corners, cubical blocks extend slightly from the main stone mass. In the center of the main axis, a square block projects slightly over the plinth, while rectangular blocks on the sides are flush with the plinth. These blocks bear the inscription for Alfred Viscount Milner, who lived from 1854 to 1925, and his wife, Violet Maxse.
