Description
The Parish Church of St Mary, which includes the Frewen Mausoleum, features a chancel with north and south chapels, a north transept that was originally the Frewen mausoleum, a nave with aisles, and a west tower topped with a spire. The base of the tower is from the Norman period, while the upper part dates to the 13th century and the stone spire is from the 15th century. The nave is from the 14th century, and the east end was rebuilt between 1835 and 1838. The Frewen mausoleum, designed by Sydney Smirke for Thomas Frewen Turner of Brickwall, was constructed in 1846 and initially had no connection to the church; it was converted into a chapel or north transept in 1978.
