Description
Clayhill House is an H-shaped house located on Uckfield Road, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring five windows. The ground floor is constructed of red brick, while the upper floor is tile-hung. The gables of the wings have brackets that support an oversailing design, and there is a tiled roof. The house has modern casement windows. A prominent feature on the west wall of the waist of the H is a massive stone chimney breast, which has a leaning brick stack adorned with zig-zag ornamentation, flanked by two vertical courses of red brick. In the 18th century, the south front was extended westward to create the south-west arm of the H, which now also has five windows. The north-west arm of the H is a modern addition.
