Description
Lady Vernon's School House is a small building that was constructed in 1771 by the Hon Louisa Barbara Vernon, the daughter of Bussy, Lord Mansell, and the wife of the Hon George Vernon of Newick Park, who later became Lord Vernon of Kinderton. Originally, the structure housed a large schoolroom and a mistress's house, but in 1926, the schoolroom was converted into a second dwelling. The building is now a single dwelling. It features a main section that is two storeys high with two windows, along with slightly recessed wings that are each one storey. The exterior is made of red brick, partially refaced with cement, and includes long and short quoins. The roof is tiled and topped with a ball finial. The central doorway has a flat hood supported by brackets and features a door with six fielded panels. Above the doorway is an oval panel that reads: "Endowed by the Honourable Louisa Barbara Vernon. AD 1771".
