Description
Pens Cottage is a house dated 1608, located in Curridge, Chieveley. It features white painted brick and a timber frame with brick nogging. The roof is pantiled, with an end stack to the left and a ridge stack off-centre to the right. The building has two storeys and consists of two framed bays with angle braces, and there are five casement windows on each floor. To the right, there is a one-storey addition with a casement window, which may be a later 17th-century framed bay that has been reduced in height. A 20th-century two-storey addition is present on the left, with a casement window on each storey. The entrance is located on the west side. Pens Cottage is traditionally associated with Cromwell's encampment before the Battle of Newbury.
