Description
The Customs House is an early 19th-century guard house that has been converted into an office. It is constructed of brick and features a slate hipped roof. The building has a single-depth plan and is a single-storey structure with three bays on each side. The central doorway has chamfered surrounds and a rubbed brick flat arch, with a recessed door and 6/6-pane sash windows. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, it is attached to the wall behind the former Commissioner's House and is paired with a matching guard house across the way. The Customs House occupies a prominent position near the ropery complex and is recognized for its historical significance within this well-preserved Georgian dockyard and factory.
