Description
The Tudor Rose Public House is a building that originally served as a house, with parts dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, and an eastern section added in the early 19th century. The western part features a rendered exterior with a tiled roof, while the eastern part has a slate roof and brick chimneystacks at each end.
The exterior of the western section is two storeys tall with attics and has three windows. It includes two gabled dormers with casement windows and a central eight-pane sash window flanked by twelve-pane sashes, all of which have moulded architraves. To the left, there is a projecting bar front with chamfered corners that contains double half-glazed doors. The eastern part is also two storeys and has two windows, with the first floor featuring one eight-pane sash and one twelve-pane sash, along with a doorcase on the right side. The rear elevation has a weatherboarded extension with casement windows and a lower pitched slate roof.
Inside, the rear bar has a beamed ceiling and a large open central chimneystack with a back-to-back fireplace. A further room to the north features early 19th-century dado panelling on all four sides and an open fireplace. The interior also has exposed floor joists and a central spine beam, built-in bench ends by the window, later 18th-century six-panelled doors, and the original rear door. The building retains an unusual collection of late Georgian public house fittings.
