Description
The Old Rectory is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of red and brown brick, with straight joints on the north and south fronts indicating that it was built in two phases. The building has a hipped plain tiled roof and is two storeys high, featuring a four-window front with irregularly spaced glazing bar sashes. The central entrance is framed by an 18th-century doorcase, and there are two large projecting bays on the north side. The rectors who served from 1788 to 1875 were R. Burt, a father and son duo. Notably, the Rev. Robert Burt senior conducted the illegal marriage ceremony between George IV and Mrs. Fitzherbert in December 1785.
