Description
The Church of St Peter and St Paul is a parish church that dates from the 12th century, with later additions and restorations from the 14th, 15th, and early 16th centuries, and a restoration in the 19th century. It is constructed from ragstone and flint, topped with plain tiled roofs. The church features a west tower, a nave with north and south aisles, a south porch, and a chancel. The west tower, built in the early 16th century, has two stages and diagonal buttresses, with a square-headed window situated above the west doorway. The nave, which dates to around 1190, includes narrow aisles. The chancel has single lancet windows on the north and south sides, and a triple lancet window on the east side. Inside, there is a 14th-century tower arch and 12th-century arcades with three bays; the south arcade has round piers with scalloped capitals, while the north arcade features similar piers that are octagonal. The nave has a crownpost roof, and the chancel arch is from the 19th century. Notable fittings include a 13th-century font.
