Description
The Crimean War Memorial at Chatham Garrison Military Cemetery, located at Fort Pitt, dates from around 1858. It features a tooled rusticated plinth with a round-headed niche that contains an inscription honoring the brave British soldiers buried nearby who lost their lives for their country between 1854 and 1858. The memorial is topped with a display of cannons, a pick-axe, a rifle, and a shovel, all made of painted cast iron. The adjacent Crimea House, which is now part of Fort Pitt Grammar School for Girls, served as a hospital during the Crimean War.
