Description

This is an 18th and 19th century row of four cottages located on Pyle Street. The cottages are built of red brick with gable ends, most having old tile roofs, although number 86 has a slate roof. They have a shallow wood eaves cornice. Each cottage originally had one sash window, retaining its glazing bars in numbers 87, 88, and 89. Number 89 also has a two-light casement window. All windows have thin wood block sills and moulded flush wood architraves. Number 87 features a shallow bay window on brackets to the ground floor, with a frieze and cornice. Number 89 has a ground floor bow window with glazing bars, a frieze, and a cornice. The recessed doors are of four fielded panels, with two glazed panels in numbers 87 and 89. Door surrounds vary: number 86 has a simple wooden case and cornice, while number 87’s is of panelled pilasters, frieze, and cornice, and numbers 88 and 89 have moulded wood cases. Numbers 86 to 90 form a group.
